About Miniature Manx Cats
The Manx Cat originated on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea between Scotland and Ireland. They are an
old breed with many fables about their origins dating back two to three hundred years ago. The Cat Fanciers'
Association (CFA) has recognized this breed since the 1920's.
The Manx breed is known for its taillessness. The Manx gene actually restricts the length of the spinal
column, the tail representing one third the length of the spine. They can be born with a stub anywhere
from one to two joints on up to half a tail with some even boasting a full length tail. When viewed from
any angle, the Manx should appear round. The body will be high in the hindquarters with the back legs much
longer than the forelegs, causing the rump to be higher than the front shoulders. The back will form a natural
arch when standing. They come in a variety of colors and short and long hair variations. Long hair is
called Cymric (Kim-Rick) and is the rarer version.

Manx females make wonderful mothers. Gestation is approximately 63 days. They usually have one to six
kittens in a litter. Kittens are weaned between six to eight weeks. Manx live up to 15 years. Here at
Tanglewood Farm, we raise a family pet type Miniature Manx Cat. They stand under 10 inches tall and
weigh 10 pounds or less.

Manx are extremely intelligent and affectionate. Their personality has often been compared to that of
a dog. They like to retrieve, play in water and carry things around in their mouth. They are generally
not loud cats. They love giving gentle head bumps and quiet purrs as their preferred methods of communication.
